Rationale for Study

Part biopic, This is England is set during the politically charged 1980s, a period of social, cultural, and political counter-revolution. Violence permeated at home in the football terraces and the streets. War was waged abroad and politicians declared that society didn't exist. This is England follows isolated teen Shaun over the period of the summer holidays, where he finds a substitute family unit in a gang of local skinheads. This unit is upset by the arrival of the charismatic Combo, who tests Shaun's loyalty and forces him to make moral choices that will affect the rest of his life. The film won Best British Film at the 2007 BAFTAS and the 2006 British Independent Film Awards.
